Photographer for the Community? SirMoore's Got the Juice

I want young black children across the African diaspora to have access to, and be inspired by, my work.

1.) What made you choose to pursue a career in the photo industry?

I remember my interest first being sparked by my grandmother taking pictures with an old Kodak point and shoot, and once I found out that my grandfather was the photographer for school pictures, it truly inspired my passion for photography.

2.) Break it down for us. What does a day in your position look like?

I’m deeply interested in documenting black stories because they are essential, and nobody tells them quite like we can.

Having the opportunity to document people’s real lives for a living is the best thing I could ever do.

3.) How do you define success in your field?

To me, success in photography is being able to make a career out of what I love to do, and that our people trust me to capture their feelings, thoughts, fears and emotions. Having the opportunity to document people’s real lives for a living is the best thing I could ever do.

4.) What’s your endgame?

I’m someone who likes to go with the flow and not necessarily set strict goals for myself, so I haven’t given much thought to my endgame. I do know that I would love the opportunity to be a team photographer. I know I would really enjoy being able to document the story of a team as it unfolds throughout an entire season, and gain access to some of the important behind-the-scenes moments you don’t get to capture as a freelancer. So, Liverpool FC or the Mets, if you are reading this, reach out!

5.) What’s one resource that you wish you had right now?

My goal is for my work to be printed, read and hung up in people’s homes. I also want young black children across the African diaspora to have access to, and be inspired by, my work.

I remember my interest first being sparked by my grandmother taking pictures with an old Kodak point and shoot.

6.) What was your “aha” moment where you realized that you could actually work in the photo industry?

I wish I had a partnership with a photo brand that would allow me to teach kids that photography is so much more than just the act of taking pictures, it’s really about telling a story. Having the opportunity to educate the youth about our industry will increase the longevity of our black

7.) What was something that you wish you would’ve known sooner?

My professionalism really came to light when I discovered that I could truly be part of the photo industry, and when I realized that better access to lighting and studio equipment would elevate my work.
